Ecopower Bonaire BV, is an ambitious and unique company, setting a world wide example regarding the implementation of renewable energy.
Ecopower Bonaire BV is the new independent power producer which will be responsible for the electricity production for the whole island for Bonaire. With a population of 12000 persons Bonaire’s peak electricity demand is approximately 12 MW. Ecopower Bonaire will supply all electricity to the Water and Electricity company Bonaire (WEB) who will distribute it to the consumers on Bonaire.
The construction of the Ecopower Bonaire wind-diesel system will be completed in the first quarter of 2010. It consists of a 10.8 MW wind farm at Morotin and a 14 MW diesel power plant, 3 MW battery storage and 3 MW black start gensets at Karpata on the Northwest corner of Bonaire. The two sites are connected with a high voltage cable to form the total wind-diesel system. The latter diesel power plant is built by the German manufacturer MAN. The wind farm comprises of 12, wind turbines and is built by the German wind turbine and system supplier Enercon.
In the near future Ecopower Bonaire aims to replace the use of fossil fuel for the diesel power plant by bio-oil, thereby realising a 100% sustainable electricity supply for the island.

The position
Ecopower Bonaire is looking for an experienced, ambitious General Manager. The person appointed will be responsible for initiating and implementing the general company procedures in order to realize the operational and business goals of the company. Important tasks and responsibilities are:

· Responsible for the development and implementation of standards, procedures and the (long term) business plan.
· Responsible for an optimal utilization, efficiency, availability, safety and reliability of the production resources.
· Ensure compliance with the supply contract (PPA) and optimal communication and cooperation with WEB Bonaire as the customer.
· Manages maintenance service contracts with external suppliers.
· Responsible for day to day operations.
· Managing, training and motivating an operation and maintenance team of approximately 18 persons
· Responsible for financial control and ensuring the required budget discipline and a stringent cash flow control.
· Represents the company, conducts negotiations, start new business relations with local and international companies for the supply of goods and services.
· Responsible for the external communication at all levels of society like government, stakeholders, and business associates. Maintains and ensures a positive company image.
· Responsible for periodical reports of operational and business economic results and for the periodical and annual financial reports.
Your profile
You have a master degree in engineering (Mechanical or Electrical) or comparable industry qualifications. You have a strong working knowledge of electricity generating technologies. You have been working as a manager of a power plant, preferably a diesel power plant for at least five years. You have experience with plant operation systems, maintenance management according to the asset management concept, financial management, personnel management and HSE. You are ambitious, able to provide sound management (goal oriented, quality driven, analytical, a decision maker, planner) and can manage technical experts. You have good written and oral communication skills, affinity with the local culture and speak English, Dutch and Papiamentu (is preferred). You will be successful if Ecopower Bonaire operates more effective and efficient than other power plants in the region, performing better that planned, safe, according to the required conditions as set in the PPA, for lower operational costs and higher profits.
